“Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 succeeds in pretty much every way it conceivably could have. The first installment was terrific, being both fun and exciting to an extent most movies aren’t, and this new movie manages to be even better in every sense. Questions raised during the previous movie are addressed, new characters are added into the mix while the already established characters are explored and given additional depth, and all of it is wrapped up in a fascinating story that is captivating and dramatic without taking itself too seriously. Ignoring noise being carried in the medium of space, especially during what amounts to a fireworks display near the end, is really the biggest problem I have with this movie…and it’s not like that is a piece of poor filmmaking exclusive to this movie. I’m glad that James Gunn is on board to helm Volume 3, because he has handled this franchise precisely the way it should be treated.”
